Getting to Fukuoka

By Air

Fukuoka Airport (FUK) is one of the most conveniently located major airports in Japan — just 5 km from the city center. It is served by numerous international and domestic flights.

By Shinkansen (Bullet Train)

Fukuoka (Hakata Station) is connected to the rest of Japan via the Sanyo and Kyushu Shinkansen lines.

From the Airport to the Venue

The Fukuoka City Subway Kuko (Airport) Line connects Fukuoka Airport directly to the city center.

  • Take the Kuko Line from Fukuoka Airport Station toward Meinohama
  • Ride to Nakasu-Kawabata Station (approx. 11 minutes, 260 yen)
  • The Fukuoka International Congress Center is a short walk from Nakasu-Kawabata Station

By Taxi

Taxis are readily available at the airport. The ride to the venue takes approximately 20–30 minutes depending on traffic and costs around 2,000–3,000 yen.

Getting Around Fukuoka

Fukuoka has an efficient and easy-to-use public transportation network.

  • Fukuoka City Subway: Three lines covering major areas of the city. IC cards (Suica, ICOCA, Hayakaken) are accepted.
  • Nishitetsu Bus: Extensive bus network covering the broader city area.
  • Taxi: Widely available throughout the city. Most drivers do not speak English, so having your destination written in Japanese is helpful.
  • IC Cards: Suica and other nationwide IC cards work on subways and buses throughout Fukuoka.

Accommodation

Fukuoka offers a wide range of accommodation options at various price points. We recommend booking early as rooms may fill up quickly during the conference period.

  • Nakasu/Kawabata area: Closest to the venue, with a variety of hotels within walking distance of the Congress Center.
  • Hakata Station area: Excellent transport connections to the venue via subway (one stop on the Kuko Line), with many hotels ranging from budget to luxury.
  • Tenjin area: Fukuoka’s main shopping and entertainment district, well connected to the venue by subway.

About Fukuoka

Fukuoka is the largest city on Kyushu island and one of Japan’s most vibrant and livable cities. Known for its friendly atmosphere, rich history, and outstanding food culture, Fukuoka offers a wonderful destination for conference attendees.

  • Food: Fukuoka is famous for Hakata ramen (tonkotsu pork broth noodles), mentaiko (spicy cod roe), motsunabe (offal hot pot), and yatai (outdoor food stalls along the Naka River)
  • Culture: The city is home to Fukuoka Castle ruins, Ohori Park, Hakata Machiya Folk Museum, and the historic Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine (45 min by train)
  • Climate: In January, Fukuoka is cool and dry, with average temperatures around 6–10°C (43–50°F). Light winter clothing and a coat are recommended.
  • Shopping: Tenjin and Hakata Station areas offer department stores, boutiques, and local goods
